Leila J. Rupp is distinguished professor of feminist studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara. She is the author of many books, including Sapphistries:  A Global History of Love between Women, Drag Queens at the 801 Cabaret, and A Desired Past: A Short History of Same-Sex Love in America, both published by the University of Chicago Press.
