Andreas Steck is professor emeritus of neurology at the University of Basel. He trained in neurology in the USA and Switzerland. Nationally and internationally, he has committed himself to the field of neurology for decades. He was a president of the Swiss Neurological Society and a founding member and president of the European Neurological Society. His research interests are directed at a better understanding and treatment of neurological disorders. He is the author of numerous publications in scientific journals and is an editor of the Swiss Archives of Neurology, Psychiatry, and Psychotherapy. With his wife, Barbara, he co-authored Brain and Mind, a book exploring how the brain works.
