Wolfgang Balk

The Colour of Landscape

A comprehensive selection of Wolfgang Balk’s abstract, contemplative, impressionist landscape paintings.

Wolfgang Balk captures the beauty of nature in his highly aesthetic abstract landscape paintings. Light, clouds, and landscape combine to make dramatic shadow plays and nuanced color palettes, guiding us into a wonderful world full of shapes and colors.

Tuscany, with its breathtaking expanses and warm southern light, lies at the center of Wolfgang Balk’s inspiration. After many years as a publisher, he set up his studio in this region of Italy so deeply shaped by the Middle Ages, and there he captures the magic of the landscape in watercolors and oils. The colors of his palette are expanded through rare pigments and self-made paints.

This volume presents Balk’s landscape paintings in full-page reproductions, accompanied by a text by Martin Tschechne.
